A New Time in the life of the Synod of the Sun
November 9, 2022
To the Fabulous & Faithful of the Synod of the Sun,
Recently, I shared with the Synod Coordinating Team of a new call for my life. I will serve out the remainder of my contract up to December 31, 2022. On January 16, 2023, I will begin serving as Synod Executive & Stated Clerk of the Synod of South Atlantic.
There could be no better time for a change such as this in the synod. Thomas Riggs, Director of Communications and Administration, has and will continue to manage the Communications Services Plan and the 20+ partners with grace, creativity, and efficiency. He is the best at what he does and has been a friend and colleague to me and many others along the way.
Rev. Kathy Lee-Cornell has proven to be the person that God put in place for the start-up of the Synod Partnership for Disaster Response. I know that you will continue to support this effort and that the pilot program will be a model for the denomination, just as so much in this synod is already. Thank you for entrusting me, for allowing me the space and time to grow into leadership as a partner in ministry with you. I am grateful for your patience, love, and support over the years. “3 I thank my God every time I remember you. 4 In all my prayers for all of you, I always praywith joy5because of your partnershipin the gospel from the first day until now, 6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” - Phil 1: 3-6
I will remember you and the future of the Synod of the Sun in prayer, as I hope you will do for me also.
Peace,
Valerie Young

& Stated Clerk
