Oklahoma Presbyteries’ Golden Bucket Challenge
by Rev. Libby Janes
Director, Synod Partnership for Disaster Recovery
Cimarron, Indian Nations, and Eastern Oklahoma Presbyteries are all engaged in a state-wide disaster preparedness initiative!

WE HEARD pastors in three presbyteries following three types of disasters – tornado, flood, and hurricane – say that Clean-Up Buckets are needed ASAP after their communities are hit by disasters, because large-supply resources from major organizations can take days or weeks to arrive.
SO presbyteries all over the Synod of the Sun are pre-positioning Clean-Up Buckets within churches around their presbytery so that they are READY when disasters happen.
THE GOAL is for Clean-Up Buckets to be called upon and deployed within 24-48 hours.
INITIATIVES are looking different in each Presbytery!
Oklahoma Presbyteries – Cimarron, Indian Nations, and Eastern Oklahoma Presbyteries – have ACCEPTED the GOLDEN BUCKET CHALLENGE!

Churches across Oklahoma have been answering this call to action! And what has been amazing is seeing each church make the challenge their own.
John Knox Presbyterian Church in Tulsa took this opportunity to honor their church’s history with this mission project. They have built 76 buckets – one for each of the 75 years the church has been together – and one to grow on!
How is your church engaging in the disaster bucket initiative? What is your presbytery doing to ensure your region is ready when disasters happen? Email SPDR Director, Rev. Libby Janes (libby.janes@synodsun.org) to share your story!
